Rashi and gemstone questions
Which gemstone should I wear according to my rashi?
In Vedic astrology the stone follows the lord of your rashi (moon sign): Mesha and Vrishchika point to Red Coral for Mars, Vrishabha and Tula to Diamond for Venus, Mithuna and Kanya to Emerald for Mercury, Karka to Pearl for the Moon, Simha to Ruby for the Sun, Dhanu and Meena to Yellow Sapphire for Jupiter, and Makara and Kumbha to Blue Sapphire for Saturn. A full chart reading can change the recommendation, which is why we ask for birth time and place.
Is my rashi the same as my zodiac sign?
Usually not. Western zodiac signs come from the tropical zodiac and are based on the Sun; rashis come from the sidereal zodiac and are usually based on the Moon. Because of precession the two differ by about 24 degrees today, so a Vedic rashi normally falls one sign earlier than the Western sun sign.
Do you need my time of birth?
For a moon-sign (rashi) reading, yes. The Moon changes rashi roughly every two and a quarter days, so without a time we can only give a probable sign. Date, exact time and city of birth give an accurate result.
How much does the recommendation cost?

What if the recommended gemstone is too expensive?
Every planetary gem has an accepted substitute (upratna) — yellow topaz or citrine for Yellow Sapphire, moonstone for Pearl, carnelian for Red Coral, white sapphire or zircon for Diamond, amethyst for Blue Sapphire, peridot or green tourmaline for Emerald. Substitutes are traditionally worn in a larger size.
